Childrens Health Back Pain

Back pain in children increasing

Low-back pain is becoming an increasing problem for children according to a report in the Lancet. The findings show that the average schoolchild carries more than 30 per cent of his or her body weight at least once a week in the form of a school backpack. Researchers are concerned because this represents unreasonable weight limits proposed for adults and children, and they believe that this is one reason why the reported rates of low back pain in children are now approaching those seen in adults.

If this trend is not stopped, it may lead to chronic back problems for children in their adulthood including curvature of the spine (scoliosis and kyphosis).
