What
is Vitamin B2?
Vitamin B2 (otherwise called 'Riboflavin') was first
observed in 1879 as a green pigment found in milk. It is not stored in the
human body for any period of time and it is therefore important to include
a regular dietary source of this vitamin.

Function
- Essential
for converting carbohydrate into energy
- Essential for normal tissue respiration
- Necessary for healthy mucous membranes

Signs
of deficiency
- Cracks in skin at corner of mouth
- Soreness of lips, mouth and tongue
- Scaling of skin around nose, mouth, scrotum,
forehead, ears and scalp
- Heightened sensitivity to light
- Conjunctivitis and watering of eyes
- Anaemia

Notes
Not
significantly affected by heat but will dissipate when exposed to light
(especially ultraviolet)
