Water Purifiers
Is
there a difference between a water purifier and a filter?
There most certainly is! A
basic filter may use Granular Activated Carbon which is effective in
reducing odours and taste but by itself will not significantly reduce
aluminium, bacteria or heavy metals such as lead.
Some better units may use silver impregnated
carbon in a sealed capsule, however, the entire capsule must be discarded
and replaced when the filter becomes blocked since there is no method of
discarding the rust and sediment building up in the unit.

What
then is a purifier and what makes if better?
The
Fresh Water Filter purifiers use six stages of treatment to deal with the
wide variety of pollutants found in water. Sediment and particulate that
build up in the cartridge can be brushed off, allowing the cartridge to be
reused after cleaning. The comparison chart overleaf shows the features of
the purifier. Only one system has more than twice the features of the rest
- a Fresh Water Filter purifier.

water for all your Filtration ~ family’s drinking and cooking needs

But
why should one be necessary?
Even if farming, industry and the
water companies reformed and became completely clean tomorrow, it could
take years (or decades) for the contaminants to work their way out of the
ground and water table. The problem of underground distribution pipes
disintegrating could never be fully overcome, nor could accidents at the
water works as a result of human error.

Would
bottled water not suffice?
By far
the most expensive of all options. You may use bottled water for drinking
or making tea, but could you afford to use if for all your cooking and
food preparation needs?
And is it FRESH? For how long has it been stored
or standing on the shelf?
Independent tests have shown that some bottled
water has higher levels of bacteria, nitrates or sodium than are set in EC
standards for tap water.
What
about a jug Filter?
Many jug filters are only designed
to improve the taste, odour and temporary hardness of tap water, and
achieve this principally by removing the chlorine added by the water
companies. They do not, and were never intended to, remove all
contaminants present in the water supplies. Moreover, they have low
capacity and filter slowly making them inconvenient for frequent volume
usage e.g. cooking.
