Water
The
source of pollution
- Nitrates, Fertilisers and
pesticides used in agriculture wash into our streams and ponds
- Chlorine (added at the water
treatment works) kills some bacteria, but taints and degrades the
taste
- Hazardous contaminants leak from
tanks and seep from refuse and disposal landfills
- Chemical effluent, toxic
substances and industrial wastes pollute rivers and other water
courses.
- Aluminium sulphate (added at the
water treatment works) can aggravate health problems
- Leaky old lead distribution
pipework - mainly Victorian, make a further and unwelcome contribution
to water pollution
