Kick the habit using Chinese medicine

Chinese medicine uses a form of treatment termed 'colonic dialysis therapy' which enables the body to eliminate toxins more quickly and effectively and so help overcome addictions.

Researchers at the PLA Institute of Drug Dependence Treatment and Rehabilitation in China observed the effects of using colonic dialysis therapy in heroin addicts, to see if it could help them abstain from their usual craving.

The study looked at one hundred and twenty five heroin addicts and divided them into two groups. All the patients were receiving dihydroetorphine (DHE) and methadon, the conventional treatment used in the management of heroin addicts. One group was then also given colon dialysis using Chinese herbal medicine from the third day of their treatment through to the eighth day.

The study revealed significantly superior results in those addicts who were receiving colon dialysis using Chinese herbal medicine in addition to their conventional treatment. It was reported that not only were patients able to abstain more easily, their course of addiction was also shorter with the symptoms disappearing more rapidly.

Evaluating their methods, the researchers suggest that as skin pigmentation can be removed quickly through dialysis, the method is able to remove toxic substances in the body and therefore be of significant benefit to helping heroin addicts rehabilitate their lifestyles.
