& Alopecia Areata
Examining 521 patients Dr Emil hey of the Department of Dermatology,
Medical University, Bulgaria discovered that almost every patient
had a different combination of tender auricular acupoints (acupoints
on the ear), but that specific groups of acu-points were found in
the majority of patients in each of three categories of alopecia
alopecia areata, alopecia androgenetica and female patients with
anagen dystrophic effluvium.
The
results indicated that auricular acupuncture offers a unique method
of determining underlying caustative factors in the various forms of
alopecia
The
treatment may be used in conjunction with other methods of
treatment and that when it is used to treat the condition, treatment
should be directed to the tender acupoints rather than on a standard
list of points.
However,
the main benefit of this research is that it points the way for-ward
and offers hope to alopecia sufferers by providing the information
required for future research into auricular
acupuncture treatment on patients suffering with alopecia.
