Chinese medicine -
effective, but more research needed into treatment for eczema
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be an effective
treatment for eczema, according to a report from Department of
Complementary Medicine, School of Postgraduate Medicine and Health
Sciences, University of Exeter, however more research is needed.
Researchers at the University
of Exeter carried out a review of Chinese medicine and its influence
in the treatment of eczema. As Chinese medicine is promoted as a
treatment for eczema, the researchers examined the existing evidence
to see if it proved a useful recommendation in the treatment of
eczema.
Of the two recorded clinical
trials investigated, both were positive and suggest that
Chinese herbs are more effective than a placebo. However, more
trials are needed, particularly in relation to potential adverse
side effects.
