Fourty patients diagnosed as having herpes simplex keratitis (HSK) inflammation of the cornea were treated with two different methods in
a recently reported controlled study. The results showed that the herbal decoction
Qing Can Xie Huo, which is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) group was
more effective than the western allopathic medicine in the treatment of HSK. The
effective rate of the Qing Can Xie Huo was 95 per cent whereas conventional treatment
produced an effective rate of only 70 per cent. The researchers concluded that their
results indicated that the Qing Can Xie Huo decoction is superior to conventional
allopathic treatment of HSK in reducing ophthalmic inflammatory reactions and promoting
the visual acuity.
