Vitamin
E & Shingles
Vitamin E
has been shown to be particularly effective in relieving post herpetic
neuralgia. Two Los Angeles dermatologists, Samuel Ayres Jr M.D., and
Richard Mihan M.D. treated thirteen patients over a period of four years
with vitamin E, administered orally and directly to the lesions. The
dosages varied between 400 to 1600 units daily, taken before meals. The
results were reported in Archives of Dermatology (December 1973). Eleven
of the patients had experienced moderate to severe pain for more than six
months , seven of which had suffered for more than a year.
After taking the vitamin E, nine of
the thirteen patients reported complete or almost complete control of
pain.
There was also a separate report by
a reader of Prevention magazine who was a nurse who had healed the
shingles lesions on her husband's chest by applying vitamin E squeezed
from a capsule directly onto the rash three times a day.

Rest
& Sleep
& Shingles
It is
commonly accepted that we should ensure we obtain adequate rest and
relaxation to maintain a healthy immune system. (See yoga & meditation
below). Doctor Jesse Stoff, an expert in chronic fatigue syndrome
recommends plenty of sleep especially between 9pm and 3am - because it is
during that time that the liver regenerates the kepffer cells, which are
vital to the body's immune system.
