B & Vitiligo
In January 1945 a study appeared in the Virginia Medical Monthly
suggesting that vitamin B PABA may be effective in treating vitiligo.
Forty eight people aged between 10 and 70 all suffering with vitiligo were
given 1-00mg of PABA three or four times daily. The rate of improvement
was slow and so the researchers began injecting the PABA and supplementing
oral tablets. Within two months the researchers found that all forty eight
people had regained normal pigmentation. (1) NB. Please note that taking
high doses of any nutrient should only be done under supervision of a
qualified health practitioner.
This evidence was corroborated by a
letter received by 'Prevention' magazine(2) from a woman who had such a
severe case of vitiligo that she became devoid of almost all pigmentation
on her skin. Conventional treatment could offer nothing for her and her
skin worsened until she suffered burning sensations.
After reading about research with
vitamin B complex she began to supplement her diet and within one month
the burning sensations were relieved and pigmentation began to return to
the skin.
Another sufferer reported that she
crushed 500mg of PABA and mixed it with a quarter cup of hot (not boiled)
water and then a cup of mayonnaise which she then applied externally to the
affected areas of skin. She had done this every day to protect her skin
from the sun and to her amazement, within a few months, the pigmentation
returned after many doctors had told her there was no cure.
