The Truth About Laser Resurfacing For Your Skin And Acne Problems

By: Joshua Poyoh

Laser resurfacing is a medical procedure that is invasive and requires much time for healing. Only consider this treatment for severe wrinkling, significant abnormal pigmentation and deep acne scars.

The laser burns away the outer layers as it resurfaces the skin. The fibroblasts will produce collagen to replace what has been burned away. Laser resurfacing can reduce fine lines and cross hatched lines. It tightens the fine lines around the mouth of smokers. It can repair broken capillaries and some acne scars. It can make acne pock marks less visible. However laser resurfacing does not work for sagging skins.

As laser resurfacing is invasive, it invokes your inflammation system. You may need about three weeks of recovery time. You will need antibiotics to prevent further infection and much pain killer pills. You may need several laser resurfacing sessions to achieve the desired results.

Possible side effects can include scarring from burns and increased abnormal pigmentation. Thus it is always less risky to have session rather than too much done in one session. Be sure that you have a good and experienced doctor with lasers operating on you before you commit to such treatments. The best way to find a doctor is to ask around. Ask your friends, skin care specialist, dermatologist and your family doctor. You may call need to your chosen doctor for more medical advice and procedures in the future. Make sure you are treated in a medical facility and there is a main doctor overseeing all treatments done.

Regardless of the treatment you seek, always be patient with yourself during the recovery stage. It takes time to heal. You may recover faster or you may take more time than the average person. Whatever it is, no one knows for sure and the results depend on each individual.

Keep in touch with you doctor and let him monitor your recovery. He will check if you are recovering well. Prevent yourself from getting anxious and upset. These emotions can hinder you and prolong your healing time needed.

All medical skin care treatment can be overdone. Perhaps you have seen too many photos of people with failed treatments. Only do what is needed to achieve a youthful face without being too unrealistic. Many cosmetic procedures are not covered by medical insurance. You may not want to take such risks and burn a hole in your pocket.

Before you sign up for any laser resurfacing treatments, look for if there are any other alternatives that can achieve the results without an invasive procedure.
