In fact, hormonal factors are one of the biggest factors leading to acne breakouts since it can lead to overproduction of oil in the skin. So it makes sense that foods leading to these types of hormonal effects can be just as damaging as the hormonal changes themselves, though they're clearly one step removed from the problem.
This is just one of several examples of the evidence supporting the connection between acne and diet, though there is still significant debate on the topic among experts. Some researchers feel that there simply isn't enough evidence to support the claims others are making related to diet and its influence on acne formation. On the other side of the coin, some experts feel that their work is being short changed because there's no money to be made by the big drug manufacturers by investing in this type of research.
