4 Top Cause Of Hair Loss In Women

By: Nash Johnson

Did you know that 20% of women suffer hair loss? It is normal to shed a few hairs each day but some people may experience excessive hair loss. What are the factors that cause hair loss in women?

Common factor that contributes to hair loss in women are stress. If you have undergone surgery or suffer illness, you may experience this type of hair loss. This is a temporary hair loss. Once you recover from your illness or your surgery, the problem will recede.

Hormonal imbalance is often associated with hair loss in women. The two hormones namely androgens (male hormone) and estrogen (female hormone) must be in balance to prevent hair loss. The cause of this hormonal imbalance may be due to hereditary reason. Research indicates that almost 50% of women suffer this type of problem over the age of 40. This hair loss in women typically result in thinning of hair, where majority of the loss is over the top and side of head. The solution for this problem is to correct the hormonal imbalance.

The same hormonal imbalance may be noticeable 3 months after giving birth. This is due to the normalization of excessive hormone secreted during pregnancy. Once given birth, the hormone reduced to pre-pregnancy level which resulted in hair loss. This is a normal cycle and should not be a cause for alarm.

Hair loss in women may also be caused by autoimmune disease where the hair follicle are attacked by white blood cells. This resulted in the shrinking of the hair follicle and restrict hair growth. This type of hair loss is not typical in population as it affects only 2%. After some time hair may regrow, come back in patchy areas or not regrow at all.
