Are There Laser Hair Removal Risks

By: Carl DiNello

Laser hair removal has become a very common procedure for both men and women. Their reasons may be common ones, or reasons that are unique to each. However, does the procedure for laser hair removal come with risks?

There are various ways to get rid of unwanted hairs such as a tweezers, shaving, or waxing. Some even go for a more expensive procedure such as electrolysis.

The advantages, and the usually reasonable cost of laser hair removal have made this procedure one of the most sought after for both men and women. However, not all people are suitable for this procedure.

While laser hair removal is generally safe, there are factors that should be taken into consideration before deciding to have unwanted hairs removed through the laser procedure. Seek the advice of a professional. If the unwanted hair can be removed through other methods then go for it; if not then consider laser hair removal.

But before deciding on the procedure, a person should be especially careful to choose only a professional to do the laser hair removal. There have been cases when the routinely fast and painless procedure of laser hair removal has turned into a nightmare. Low-cost clinic's may not have the necessary first aid equipment, or as competent a staff as the professional. A situation like this can definitely increase laser hair removal risk.

Laser hair removal is supposed to be painless because it uses light to remove the hair. Each laser hair removal session is expected to last only an hour to minimize exposure to the light. For this reason, the client is expected to return for as many procedures as necessary to totally kill new follicle growth.

The procedure should be uncomplicated. However, complications may arise if the staff doing the procedure fail to advise the client that laser hair removal is not compatible with tanned skin because it usually leads to a burning of the skin. An untrained staff definitely increases the risks of laser hair removal. Normally, a person undergoing laser hair removal should only feel a slight pressure, or discomfort on the skin, but not so much as to feel the skin burning.

While there are bizarre cases where a person who underwent laser hair removal suffered extreme burns, or even died, laser hair removal is known to not be dangerous. The most common, and the most serious effects after undergoing the procedure can be swelling in the area where the laser was applied, or focused, to more serious complications like discoloration of the skin area as well as scarring.

However, scarring is not commonly considered a laser hair removal risk; especially when the procedure is done by professionals who have thorough knowledge of the laser hair removal procedure.

The best advice to minimize any laser hair removal risk, is to seek the services of a professional should you be thinking about undergoing this procedure.
