Hair Loss Help

By: Josh Riverside

Hair loss is normal. You may loose about 50 to 100 hairs a day, and you do not have to worry. Normally when one falls out, another one grows in its place. What you have to worry about is when hair stops growing or when it grows back but is not enough to replace those that fell out.

It is normal for an older man to worry about hair loss. Unfortunately, a condition called androgenetic alopecia, more commonly known as male-pattern baldness, is a problem without any solution. If you come from a family with a long line of hair loss problems, you may want to learn to embrace the fact that your hair will eventually fall out and it will never grow back again.

But hair loss is not exclusive to men alone; hair loss can affect anyone of any age, any ethnicity, any gender, or from any environment. Some causes are temporary and can easily be solved by making simple changes, while others may require medication to remedy the situation.

You can lose some hair if you are experiencing an allergic reaction to shampoo, hair gel, hair spray, mousse, dye, bleach, or other hair products. This can be avoided by replacing the hair product you are using.

Drying your hair under high heat can damage your hair and cause it to fall out. Switch the hair dryer to the lowest setting to prevent damage to the hair.

Hairstyles that put a strain on the scalp, such as braids, ponytails, pull-backs, or barrettes, may cause hair to fall out and even damage the scalp, preventing hair from growing back. If you sport one of these hairstyles, you may want to change to something that would not put too much strain on the hair.

A fungal infection caused by ringworms may also cause breaking of the hair near the scalp. The infection can be remedied by taking medication. The infection could actually be caused by a medication you are taking; if so, the doctor may ask you to stop, or he may prescribe another medicine.

If you are a woman going through menopause, you may experience hair loss. If so, you can seek estrogenic treatments such as taking soy isoflavones or hormone replacement therapies to alleviate the problem.

If you are undergoing chemotherapy therapy, loosing your hair is a common side effect of the treatment. Do not worry; the hair lost will eventually grow back within 6 to 12 months after your treatment.
