Hair Removal

By: Richard Romando

In an ideal world, you would not have hair on your face, armpits, legs, or bikini line. The hair on your scalp would be all you would have to worry about. But the fact is, you can never completely stop hair growth in unwanted areas. Like it or not, unwanted hair will spurt out of the weirdest parts of your body.

Unwanted hair can minimize your attractiveness to the opposite sex and could even destroy any chance you might have for a normal and happy life. Thanks to hair removal technology, though, you have the power to control hair growth. Hair removal is becoming a popular cosmetic treatment for women and for an increasing number of men as well.

Types

There are many hair removal methods to choose from.

Shaving. Shaving is the quickest, simplest, and cheapest way to remove unwanted hair. The downside? It does not take hair from the root, so its effects are fairly sort. You have to shave everyday in order to maintain hairless skin.

Electrolysis: This is the process of destroying hair roots with an electric current. This process destroys the regenerative ability of the hair follicle so that the hair never grows back. Compared to permanent hair removal solutions, electrolysis is cheaper. You usually for electrolysis pay by the minute, so the longer the session, the cheaper it gets per minute. For example, if 15 minutes costs around $25 (the average rate), then 30 minutes might cost only $40, and an hour may costs only $60.

Laser Hair Removal This is a highly effective but very expensive method of hair removal. One 15-minute laser session can cost you anywhere from $150 to about $250. During the process, light energy from the laser focuses on the hair follicles and uses heat to kill it. The melanin of the skin (the pigment found right under the hair follicle) absorbs the heat, which in turn disables the hair follicle, preventing future growth and providing permanent results.
