Post-operative Pain  Homoeopathy

Homœopathic therapy with Aconite for post-operative pain in children

Despite the use of modern analgesic methods, the combination of pain and agitation is often witnessed in the recovery-room. Aconite is one homœopathic remedy that was put forward as an appropriate remedy in this situation and researchers at the Chirurgicale Clinique in France conducted a study to evaluate how effective aconite was in alleviating the post-operative pain and anxiety involving violence and suddenness of the stress bringing about intense anguish.

The study involved fifty children suffering from post-operative pain and anxiety. The children were randomly selected to receive Aconite or a placebo tablet. The researchers then observed the children’s post-operative agitation and when the results were collated they found that 95 per cent of the children who received the aconite experienced a relief in symptoms. The researchers concluded that aconite was effective in helping to alleviate children's postoperative agitation and that this homœopathic remedy should be used in the recovery room and in every physician’s emergency case.
