Bitter Gourd
Latin name: Momordica Charantia
Sanskrit / Indian names: Karavella, Kathilla
For many years the
fruits have been employed in India as a remedy for diabetes mellitus, the
principle constituents being lectins, charantin and momordicine.
Significant antilipolytic and lipogenic activities have been shown by
lectins from the bitter gourd.
The leaves, fruits and
extracts have medicinal uses as well as possessing pharmacological
properties.
It can be employed as:

- Anorectic and for the potentiation of ACh
- Inhibition of ACh of skelatal muscle
