Professional
Associations Osteopathy
Osteopathy is the first of
the professions previously outside conventional medical services to
achieve statutory recognition. The Osteopaths Act 1993 set up a single
body, the General Osteopathic Council, to regulate, promote and
develop the profession in the UK.
When the legislation comes fully into force
in May 2000, all practising osteopaths must be registered and the
title ‘Osteopath’ becomes protected. In this way patients will
have the same protection as they have when currently visiting a doctor
or dentist.
