Imagine, if you will, a very large many layered wedding cake. In fact, imagine the wedding cake to be twenty-five layers standing over ten feet tall. As you can imagine the cake is thickest on the bottom layer and the frosting is thickest on the top layer. Now, imagine slicing a very long thin blade through the cake from the top tier to the bottom tier. Of course, the length of time taken to slice through the cake is different than the length of time taken to slice through the top tier or the very large thick frosting flowers.
Imagine now, if you will, that sleep may be measured as layers of wedding cake. Therefore, the deeper in the tiers of the cake, the deeper the layers of sleep. Allowing the wedding cake to represent (for the moment) REM sleep, it is easy to see that those who are light sleepers are those that slip about on the top two or three layers of the cake sliding about in the sugary frosting but never getting into the deep thick cake or sleep. Now imagine a sleeper going to bed to go into sleep at about 11PM, falling deeper and deeper into the delicious layers of sleepy cake so that by two or three AM the sleeper is into yummy dreamy sleepy cake. Suddenly, almost every early morning, the sleeper awakens to look at the clock, get up and pee, or scratch a scratch.
To realize the transition, imagine drawing the knife from the 25th layer of wedding cake and from the top of the cake beginning to slice through the layers of top tiers and frosting. Once the sleeper begins to doze back through the sleepy icing, time is insufficient as the sleeper awakens for the morning sun shines brightly from the nearby window. The sleeper only got into the layers of frosting sleep and failed to re-enter deep sleep.
REM SLEEP DISTURBANCES exist when good REM sleep is interrupted. No matter what the sleeper believes the fact is that deep REM sleep will only be met once in the night, if it is interrupted a biophsyiopsychological change begins to take place that may appear in the form of sexual perversions, dysfunctions, or fetishes. Adjust the sleep and it is possible to adjust the sex drive.
HYPNOTIC SLEEP OR TWILIGHT sleep has 25 levels thence catatonic and catalytic. Almost all stage hypnosis and modern day addiction-breaking hypnotherapy occurs within the first five levels of hypnosis. Hypnosis is not a form of magic, although the field of hypnotherapy needs to appreciate the snake charmers and snake oil charmers that brought hypnosis to its waking moment for without the stage performers and extremists, hypnotherapy would not be an AMA accepted form of therapy. Questions and challenges may only come forward when the science itself is introduced and fed, and who in the past would have financed and supported the endeavors of hypnosis without the snake oil sales persons and stage acts? Houdini offered a wonderful opportunity for science to study hypnosis. The Bible is loaded with hypnotic possibilities. Many hypnotherapists have eluded to the idea that Biblical hypnosis brought the sick to wellness, and angels to believers. Maybe Christ was the master hypnotherapist for who could have told a leper to take up their bed and walk without being convincing as a suggestion hypnotist?
HYPNO-BIRTHING AND DEEP GRIEF HYPNOTHERAPY takes place within the first seven to nine levels of hypnotic sleep. There are very few times that hypnosis requires any more levels of trance work than twelve levels, short of comatose victims. I have used hypnotherapy in a reading suggestion to awaken at least one sleeping comatose patient (she was a senior citizen in a coma that lasted more than several months). I have used hypnotherapy to help at least one man through infertility. He did not try hypnocology until he and his wife exhausted over $100K to infertility clinics, but after numerous sessions he experienced a psychological awakening; later he looked me up and shared with me that the nursery resounded in a set of three happy triplets little smiling gurgles. In the case of loss of a family member, hypnotherapy is a wonderful opportunity to revisit the life of the family member and create closure. Hypnotherapy erases and separates emotion not memory or thought.
SO HOW ARE THE LEVELS CREATED AND COUNTED? A lot of practice and experience, trial and error, and study and education create a sense of instruction that is based upon the movement of the cortical muscles in the head (the muscles behind the eyes), and the pupils. Also, a very keen sense of studying a patient/client during the waking hours is necessary to understand the normal waking behavior of a client so that during sleep some simple behavioral techniques make it possible to create a sense of leveling. Leveling is done through many stages and a complex interjection of sounds. The juxtaposition of levels of tones, seconds to moments of silence, and repetitive echoes are more important than the actual number of words or the sense the words make. In fact, it is important not to be second guessed when making suggestions.
IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SELF-HYPNOTIZE because it is not possible to go into a trance and to know how the cortical muscles are reacting and when the ascending reticular system ("ars") is reticulating so that the messages accepted through the limbic system in the brain will be anchored to work through the pituitary after the hypothrombolic system sorts over one zillion messages to the exponent of infinity through the messaging systems while devising a breathing and focusing suggestion toward positivity, and if all that is possible it is still impossible to awaken the sleeping hypnotized self. In conjunction to that set of beliefs so it is impossible to hypnotize over the telephone or internet to perform effective healing because the timing of actual physiological response would be unlikely and ineffective. However, telephonically possibilities exist with a post-hypnotic suggestion.
AUTO-HYPNOTIC SUGGESTIONS AND POST-HYPNOTIC SUGGESTIONS are more than possible. For this reason many wealthy, educated, individuals of notoriety seek out my services before making speeches, proposals, or trying a new thrill seeking adventure. Many famous celebrities come to use hypnocology when beginning a new movie or show production so the stress is well-managed and the memory is honed. Sometimes, hypnocology is used to remember a safe combination or to relocate a set of lost keys or a phone number, so it has as use in short term and in long term memory.
WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?
Your body is very relaxed, so relaxed in fact that unless you are told to think about your big toe on your left foot, you would absolutely not think about any part of your body or your big toe. Your mind becomes more and more acutely aware of everything being said to it. Your mind is an intelligent force. Your mind can not be convinced to accept thoughts, suggestions, or ideas that are non-intelligent. A demonstration of your smart mind is to say that if while you remain under hypnotic suggestion you are told that from now on the word January shall be spelled out JXYZP, once awakened upon being asked how to spell January you would say, "J-A-N-U-A-R-Y." You see, you can not be fooled into believing otherwise than you have learned through academics and education, and desire.
As you experience deeper levels of hypnosis, you begin to find your way through the pathways of your own mind. The way I have heard it best1 shared is that in a way you and I as your hypnotherapist are getting into a gondola or a canoe. You are in the front of the canoe, I am in the rear as your guide. As you travel through the waterways, you are in familiar territory. You know the byways, and bypasses, you recognize the trees, the houses, the places in your memory that are part of you. I, as your guide, listen as you share with me that you see debris, broken twigs or trees, or any number of other matter in your dream. I help you understand the debris as it pertains to you in your life, you decide how you want to handle the debris. Maybe you would like to build a small hut from the twigs and broken bits of tree once struck by a lightening storm in your life, and maybe that storm represented a fight you worked through in deciding to make a career change that you never thought you would have faced. Years later, you see only the debris across a river as you glide through your hypnotic memory and now begin to understand that you left areas in your life unresolved, open, needing closure. Now, as you see the opportunity you climb from the gondola and begin to build a small hut from the debris. Climbing into the gondola as you sail through more waterways, you smile and give yourself a warm hug because you have closure where you once had a storm. Each time you go into hypnotic sleep it is easier to maneuver through the waterways toward positivity and to build for tomorrow.
