When we hear of a possible pandemic flu, it?s easy to say, ?Well, I don?t see much that we can do?. we don?t even have a vaccine?. not one that has been tested on people anyway?so what?s the use of worrying???
I think that there is a lot we can do?.
I know that we probably can?t stop the mutation of this deadly strain into the human strain, but the state of our own immune systems will determine much.
We all have the erroneous tendency to look to government for everything?and when things do go wrong we blame the government?. but we should be looking at ourselves?.
Consider that the poor people who showed up at the Superdome to ride out Hurricane Katrina did not even bring a bottle of water, much less anything else. The Feds gave the entire state of Louisiana (and New Orleans) carte blanche (by written Executive order) three days before the storm hit and yet, no provisions were waiting for the people when they arrived at the Dome. Not even a drop of water?and City employees who were supposed to man the pumps were sent home to be with their families. You see the people of Louisiana had lived through decades of hurricanes?there was no reason to believe that this storm would be any different?a little wind?a little flooding in the streets?etc. etc. But it wasn?t?. and they all got caught with their pants down?Mayor Nagel cussing later on the radio at the Feds for not being able to get through the flooded water and high winds?to hurry up and fix what should have been prepared for?people died of panic?. people drowned?. others went missing forever?and we sat wringing our hands over the gruesome, gut wrenching scenes on TV?but it never had to happen that way?.
And we all sit?and do absolutely nothing to prepare to ?shelter in place? to ride out the Avian Flu pandemic storm?. government will take care of us?right?
Well, you may take that stance, but I know quite a few people that are putting some containers of whey protein in their cupboards, and stocking up on canned goods if they have to stay in doors completely away from people. They are discussing work plans with their employers. These people are getting check ups, elective surgery, and dental work done now. They are discussing how they will get their meds if they have to stay indoors away from people. They are thinking while others are just hoping it doesn?t happen?but when it does, it will be too late to go out and get things?. to do so could be deadly, not only to yourself but for your loved ones at home?
What are you doing? Are you putting things off because you are too busy? Do you need any dental work that is compromising your immune system making you vulnerable to not survive the flu if you contract it? Do you have any health issue that is not being effectively dealt with now? Don?t wait?the state of your health will be the deciding factor in whether or not you live or die from this avian flu?.
Think about the things I am saying to you here?now is the time to prepare?.
Don?t wait?.by then, it will be too late?..
