To-day's article is the result of one of my favourite methods of
topic selection.
I simply choose a book from the library without undue scrutiny or
search - open it to a page and use the first word, phrase or
sentence that catches my attention .
To-day we have the privilege of listening to the words of John
Maxwell from his book entitled "Developing the Leader Within You' -
page 103
'We cannot choose how many years we will live, but we can choose
how much life those years will have.'
Maxwell is saying that we cannot determine the quantity BUT we can
determine the quality.
At the moment of conception - when our parents joined in the joy of
creation - we were given a quantity of life force;
- a 'due by' date
- a warranty of expectation
- a limited amount of time to be here on planet earth.
This is a given - the DNA of our being - bequeathed to us by our
forefathers - and it is, of course, beyond our control to extend
this warranty.
However, it is within our control - through choice - to determine
how we will live our allotted number of years.
We can live in a state of harmony with nature's forces and
therefore achieve to high levels of health and happiness or -
We can live outside nature's guidelines and succumb to states of
ill health accompanied by symptoms of disease and pain.
You may well ask at this point - 'What are the forces that direct
our choices?'
I suspect that among the many and varied reasons, the word
education would take it's place as a prime determiner.
Once we have determined the principles that lead us to the specific
causes of health it is a simple matter to apply these principles
and achieve the desired results.
The principles of health, in case you have forgotten or have taken
for granted, are based on the laws of anatomy, physiology and
biology - the laws of science.
There are exact specifications regarding:
- Diet and Nutrition
- Exercise
- Rest
...and the sooner these specifics are recognized, learned and acted
upon, the sooner we will achieve the quality of health that knows
no worries.
