AP - A hepatitis C outbreak was caused by workers improperly reusing syringes and medicine vials at a Las Vegas clinic, federal health officials said Friday.



Survival of quake victims depends on many factors (AP)
AP - A nurse survived eight days in the wreckage of a Turkish hospital destroyed by an earthquake in 1992. A newborn was rescued after more than a week in the rubble of Mexico City's 1985 quake. Now, in China, rescuers are pulling out victims days after they were buried by a powerful earthquake.
FDA stresses birth defect risks with Roche drug (AP)
AP - Health regulators warned again Friday that Roche and Novartis drugs prescribed to organ transplant patients can cause miscarriages and birth defects when used by pregnant women.
Vitamin D may help curb breast cancer, study finds (AP)
AP - Breast cancer patients with low levels of vitamin D were much more likely to die of the disease or have it spread than patients getting enough of the nutrient, a study found — adding to evidence the "sunshine vitamin" has anti-cancer benefits. The results are sure to renew arguments about whether a little more sunshine is a good thing.

Recipe Number One: Lemon Alcohol Mouthwash

Ingredients:

  • Brandy - 1 cup
  • Distilled Water - 1 cup
  • Lemon juice - 1 teaspoon
  • Sage
  • Thyme
  • Myrrh powder

1. Infuse the brandy by adding one teaspoon each of dried sage, thyme, and myrrh powder. Cover the cup tightly and leave for two weeks.

2. Strain the liquid and add the distilled water. Shake well.

3. Pour three or four teaspoons into a glass and add the lemonjuice. Mix thoroughly. The mouthwash is now ready to use. Swish around the mouth, taking care not to swallow, and spit.

Recipe Number Two: Rosemary Mint Mouthwash

Ingredients:

  • Distilled water - 2 cups
  • Fresh mint leaves - 1 teaspoon
  • Rosemary leaves - 1 teaspoon
  • Anise seeds - 1 teaspoon

1. Boil the water and then add the mint leaves, rosemary leaves and anise seeds. Let infuse for 20 minutes.

2. Let the liquid cool. Strain off and use as a mouthwash: Swish around the mouth, taking care not to swallow, and spit.

Recipe Number Three: Alcohol Free Mouthwash

Ingredients:

  • Antiseptic plant materials such as cloves, myrrh, goldenseal, and rosemary
  • Boiling water - 2 cups

1. Add the plant materials to the boiling water in a jar and cover. Leave overnight.

2. Strain the liquid. The mouthwash is now ready to use. Swish around the mouth, taking care not to swallow, and spit.
