Anyone who participates in some kinds of exercise regimes can benefit greatly from including some forms of aerobic exercises into their programs. By definition, aerobic exercises are those exercises that involve large-muscle groups and that can be maintained continuously and is rhythmical, such as running, walking, swimming, skating, cycling, rowing, rope-skipping, exercise hula hoop and the like. They are usually of sufficient intensity that raises the heart rate to 60% to 90% of the maximum heart rate, and carried out in duration of 15 to 60 minutes of continuous exertion.
This seems like the kind of games for teenagers as they are always seen as having unlimited sources of energy that keep them going for long duration of time.
However, just like everyone else, if teenagers are to start out any kinds of aerobic exercises, it'd be highly advisable that they begin slowly and increase intensity and duration gradually, paying extra attention to the importance that they don't try to reach 90% of their maximum heart rate for over an hour the first time out. Allowing time for the body to adapt and recover so that they can reduce the risk of injury as well as increase their aerobic capacity is also highly suggested.
They can start out with exercises such as exercise hula hoop, or brisk walking and then progress to power-walking, gradually increasing the intensity at appropriate speed. Or take swimming lessons in which they'd surely put their heart to work. Swimming is one of those exercises that can hardly be overdone because when the body is tired and overworked, it'd have no other means to go over the limits in the water. Unlike other forms of exercises, when the limit is reached and yet it's not registered by the body, potential dangers will more easily manifest themselves.
Encouraging teenagers to exercise with partners will serve well to act as physical and emotional support, or barrier, which can reduce the dangers of 'burn-out' that goes unnoticed because with workout partners to communicate one's feelings to, they can inform one and the other about the signs that represent such dangers in a subconscious manner, thus leading to gradual decrease of intensity during workout. Furthermore, with one spotting another during heavy-duty exercises, the danger of injury is also highly reduced.
Another important aspect for teenagers to watch out for when performing aerobic exercises is the need for proper nutrition. Without the proper diets that supply all the right amount of nutrition, it'd be harder for the teenagers to recuperate after their heavy-duty aerobic exercises, especially when aerobic exercises will burn fat whole lot faster than any other kinds of exercises. Therefore, watching the rate the body burns its fat and reinforcing with good amount of fats and proteins will be the most sure-fire way to reap the most positive benefits for the teenagers who take up aerobic exercises.
