Harmful Health Effects of Rapid Weight Loss

By: James Hegarty

One of the most overlooked facts about weight loss is that weight gain did not happen overnight. It was gradual process of eating, overeating and most importantly not engaging in any kind of physical activity to burn the unused calories off.

These unused calories are what results in the weigh gain when the body converts the excess calories into fat which is stored in the body. So before an individual thinks about going on a crash diet for rapid weight loss remember that it may probably do more harm than good.

Various studies have shown that too rapid weight loss or crash dieting simply does not work. Professionals believe that it actually has a negative effect on the body. This is because a body on a crash diet usually reacts by storing reserve fat because the body is preparing itself for the possibility that there will be no other meal. This is fat that is not burned off so will usually come back as weight gain defeating the initial attempt to lose weight.

The good news though is that manufacturers of rapid weight loss products and solutions are developing the right approach to rapid weight loss. These products metabolize these stored fats thereby eliminating the problem of rapid loss of weight and rapid gain of seemingly lost weight. Still rapid loss of weight is perhaps most beneficial when it is for a quick solution to a pressing engagement such as fitting into a particular size for a short period of time and for good reason.

Some rapid weight loss drugs like phentermine which are usually sold online without a prescription have been found to result in high blood pressure. So it is advisable to those who want rapid weight gain to be certain they do not suffer from any illnesses that these drugs might exacerbate.

Other products though make claims to help individuals achieve rapid weight loss by other methods like cleansing or metabolism. Again this is a solution for the short term and should not be applied for the long term as it can result in health complications. This is more so if an individual losses in excess of a pound a day. Care should be taken to avoid such a situation.

A point to note about many rapid weight loss solutions is that they really only succeed in getting rid of the water stored in the body and not necessarily the excess fat. This should be a red flag for such methods as it should be remembered that the body is made up largely of water and also needs water for all its cleansing, expelling and other body functions

So the best methods of losing weight that will work while keeping you healthy is to follow a long term weight loss plan. A short term plan has the possibility of health complications and should be avoided as a replacement for a sensible long term health plan. This ensures health, weight loss and a better looking you.
