I get many e-mails and letters from people who want a program to get into shape. Many of these people have no prior experience into the world of weight training or exercise in general. Many of those people are your typical disgruntled fad dieters who have failed and want something that works. These people are intimidated of going into a large Gym to workout in. Others may join the large gym but don?t know what to do with all the fancy equipment.
Let me be the first to tell that you are carrying all the equipment you will need to get your shape up and fitness program going. What kind of exercise equipment am I talking about? I am talking about your own body. You heard me correctly. All you need to get started on the road to getting into tip top shape are body weight exercises also known as calisthenics. When I tell people this they are taken by surprise by the simplicity. When I talk about body weight exercises, I am not talking about those silly little exercises you see on those late night infomercials that sell videos. I am talking about exercises described in my new course Muscle Conditioning. The exercises I go into in my course and videos are very tough and will actually burn loads of fat and build hard lean muscle. Many people are used to getting complex answers to their fitness questions when they are starting out. That is exactly what many savvy marketers want so that they can sell you many fancy products, which leads me into a story.
The other day I was talking to my next door neighbor and he said to me, "Man, I am out of shape. I need to start working out. I need to join a Gym." He asked me what type of gym he should join? I said to him "What do you mean?" He said "I really do not know. I do not have the money for a Gym membership. What do you suggest?" I said to him ?You do not need to join a gym or purchase expensive equipment. There is alot you can do with just your body weight?. He very was Surprised. He goes on ?Like what? The only thing that comes to my mind is push-ups". "Funny" I said, "Have you ever heard of Hindu Squats, Sumo Squats, Hindu Push-ups, Dive bomber push-ups, body rowing, chin-ups and handstand push-ups? There are many more you know." "You just need some direction and you can have a complete routine where you can develop your body all through calisthenics."
Here is a sample routine I gave him from my Muscle Conditioning Course:
I had him do the Push-up Gauntlet, which consist of
1) Dive Bomber Push-ups 20 reps
2) Hindu Push-ups 20 Reps
3) Standard Push-ups 20 reps
4) Static Hand stands for 30 seconds
5) Hindu Squats 50 reps
6) Sumo Squats 50 reps
7) Chin-ups 10-20 reps
8) Lying leg raises 20 reps
I told him that this routine should help him develop functional strength
and build up his body. He was very appreciative and went at the routine the
following morning. You see there are no excuses for not exercising and following a good fitness program. You have all the equipment you need; your own body weight.
