Eggs have encouraged controversy over the years?putting us into a dilemma?shall I eat an egg or not? Finally American Heart Association waves a green flag recommending us to eat one egg a day.

However the fact remains the same, eggs are high in cholesterol but the good news is that cholesterol is concentrated in the yellow of the egg. So as long as you are on low cholesterol diet, sustain yourself to the whiter portion of the egg. Be a little more cautious if you already have cholesterol problems.

Eggs have high nutritious value which gives a long list of benefits to our health.

  • Eggs are high in protein. If you are working out, eggs will help you build muscles.
  • Eggs are loaded with carotenoids, a protein that aids sharp vision to protect from cataract and keeps eyes healthy later in life.
  • Eggs are full of vitamin D which helps in keeping the bones strong.
  • An important vitamin called choline is a memory enhancer which is found aplenty in eggs.
  • An egg has only 75 calories.
  • An egg yolk contains 1.6 g of saturated fats that are bad kind and rest is poly and mono unsaturated fats which are good for health.
  • The egg yolk has vitamin D that promotes calcium and phosphate absorption from food.
  • Vitamin A is essential for vision in dim light; necessary for maintenance of mucous membranes; skin and growth. Egg yolk has plenty of vitamin A for your body.
  • Eggs have riboflavin (B2) involved in energy release fat and protein.
  • Vitamin B12 is responsible for the formation of blood cells and nerve fibers. This vitamin can be acquired from an egg a day.
  • Eggs are a source of Iodine which is used to make thyroid hormones.
  • Zinc and Selenium which are essential for growth and sexual maturity of the body and an antioxidant to protect cell membranes against oxidation are found in eggs.
Moreover, most of the Europeans suffer from Vitamin D insufficiency during the winter vitamin D-fortified eggs are an easy way to solve this problem.

While dieting, it is important for you to notice if your body is getting all types of nutrition important to keep you healthy and happy. Weight loss is important, for that you need to control your diet, but do not stop eating altogether. There are a lot of tasty choices which will give you proper nutrition without extra calorie. Egg belongs to that category of food, but excess of everything is bad. So you will have to keep close eye at the number of eggs you eat. The recommended portion is one yolk with four to five egg whites a day, that should make you a filling and tasty breakfast.
