The National
Organisation for Healthy Backs
BackCare is the new name for the National Back
Pain Association. We have concluded that this new name better reflects an
organisation that is positive, dynamic, contemporary and inclusive.
We are keen to emphasise our concern for better prevention, pain
management and rehabilitation for people with back pain through provision
the information and advice, support and research into appropriate
treatments. Although we remain registered as the National Back Pain
Association we believe our new name will allow us to improve awareness
of what we offer, encourage greater membership and funding, and allow us
to expand and enhance our membership products and services.
Although back pain is widespread, debilitating
and costly for the individual, the NHS and the economy as a whole, this
organisation remains relatively small and unknown, even though it was
established 30 years ago and was known originally as the Back Pain
Research Association. Today, we remain the only national voluntary
association concerned with the needs of people with back pain.
