JABS
JABS as a self-help group neither
recommends nor advises against vaccinations but we aim to promote
understanding about immunisations and offer basic support to any parent
whose child has a health problem after vaccination.
JABS wants comprehensive information
for all parents to make an informed decision on the benefits and risks of
vaccination.
JABS accepts that the majority of
children suffer no ill-effect from immunisation but is concerned that very
few studies have been done as to the long term effects of vaccinations.
JABS feels that the current method
of reporting adverse reactions is totally ineffective. The system needs to
be radically changed to ensure all reactions are reported.
JABS feels that the present vaccine
damage payment scheme is inadequate: JABS is concerned that the minority
that do suffer side effects are not always recognised by the Department of
Health as vaccine damaged. a) currently a child has to be at least 80%
disabled before being assessed for the one-off payment of £30,000. b) the
period in which claims can be made is restricted to six years from
vaccination.
JABS wants justice for our vaccine
damaged children and will continue to campaign for a legal right to
compensation. JABS also wants Legal Aid to be reinstated for all families
affected.
JABS was the first group to conduct
a survey of children whose parents consider that their children have had
an adverse reaction to a vaccination. JABS has produced reports based on
information received. These reports have been placed with parents, other
support groups, doctors, health visitors, MP's and the Department of
Health.

The Informed Parent
‘The Informed Parent’ was set up in September 1992 to counter frustration and isolation experienced by parents in their efforts to seek information about
immunisation, following uncertainty about its safety and effectiveness.
Membership is on an annual basis with a quarterly newsletter to provide information and a voice for members. Members will also receive a comprehensive reading list and notice of any local talks or meetings. Members will be introduced to other group members to establish a support network
(see Aims and Objectives No. 6 below).
The Informed Parent does not give medical advice, and do not neither recommend nor advise against vaccination, but we can help parents inform themselves and make the right decision for their child.
1 To promote awareness and understanding about vaccinations in order to preserve the freedom of an informed choice.
2 To offer support to parents regardless of the decisions they make.
3 To inform parents of the alternatives to vaccinations.
4 To accumulate historical and current information about vaccination and to make it available to members and interested parties.
5 To arrange and facilitate local talks, discussions and seminars on vaccinations and preventative medicine for childhood illnesses.
6 To establish a nationwide support network and register (subject to members permission).
7 To publish a newsletter for members.
8 To obtain, collect and receive money funds by way of contributions, donations, subscriptions, legacies, grants or any other lawful methods; to accept and receive any gift of property; to administer such funds and property and to devote the income, assets or property of the group in or towards
fulfillment of the objectives of the group.
The Informed Parent funds are very limited. Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope or stamps to cover any correspondence costs where possible.
