The Fellowship of Depressives
Anonymous (FDA) operates on a self help/mutual aid basis without
paid workers. Whilst encouraging members to use, and cooperate with,
all available conventional mental health services, we aim to help
people to share helpful ideas, and support each other. We do this in
a variety of ways; local groups, pen friends, our Newsletter and
public meetings.
Public events also provide opportunities for the caring professions
to share their expertise and find out more about us. The public are
encouraged to attend and learn about depression.
Contact with and
assistance to research workers is continuous. Our leaflets and
booklist provide information on various topics of interest to
depression sufferers.
We are pleased to
hear from anyone considering setting up local groups, as we believe
them to be a real aid to coping and to recovery. We are not a ’12
Step’ organisation, though we are willing to offer help and advice
to those who may wish to follow that path. Our members include those
at all levels of depression, from those with mild depression, to
those severely affected who may be suicidal.
We welcome and
include those whose depression has abated and all those concerned
for depressives whom they wish to support.
