Self-help organisations  Eye Care

Eyecare Information Service

The primary role of the Eyecare Information Service is to increase understanding about the work of the opthalmic profession, communicating with the public via the media. This includes local and national newspapers, general and specialist interest magazines, as well as national and local radio and TV.

The EIS supplies a range of materials to its members that enable them to promote their own practices as a free, reliable and impartial source of information, as well as participating in the benefits of national marketing campaigns.

For many members of the public, especially those who may be concerned about an eye condition or who are apprehensive about visiting an optometrist, the Eyecare Information Service is frequently a valuable first port of call. Via its public helpline, the EIS is able to ally people’s fears, dispel myths and send out useful information in the form of leaflets and fact sheets. Our telephone service will always refer enquirers to their nearest EIS member practice.
