Self Help Organisations
The
National Meningitis Trust
The Trust is a registered charity
founded in 1986 by people who had direct experience of meningitis. It now
leads the fight against meningitis by:
- producing leaflets, posters and
symptoms cards, to make people aware of the disease;
- paying for research into vaccines and
treatment;
- offering emotional and financial
support for sufferers and their families.
Here are some of the services the Trust
provides
- 24 Hour Helpline. If you are
distressed and anxious about meningitis, or you need someone to talk
to, phone 0845 6000 800. Your call will cost the same as a local call.
- Nationwide Counselling Service.
Available to persons that require more intense support after being
directly affected by the trauma that meningitis can cuase.
- Grants. The Trust can give grants to
improve the quality of life for meningitis sufferers. The grants are
for aids and equipment, education and training and respite care,
amongst others. In certain circumstances the Trust can also provide
grants for close family and friends of sufferers.
You could play an important part in
helping to reduce the effects of meningitis. If you feel you can help the
Trust in any way or would like to make a donation, please contact our 24
hour helpline 0845-6000-800.
