National Ankylosing
Spondylitis Society
The National Ankylosing
Spondylitis Society is a membership organisation dedicated to providing
patient education and support. We produce publications as well as video
film of the essential exercise programme.
The society has a growing
branch network of over 100 branches providing supervised physiotherapy one
evening a week for 2000 members of the society. The society answers social
and medical questions on the disease.
The society donates
approximately 8000 copies our Guidebook for Patients mainly to hospital
rheumatologists and physiotherapists who are in contact with AS patients.
This is especially important as the average age of diagnosis is 23 years
old and a very large part of the management of the disease is the responsibility
of the patient.
