If you are anything like the typical dieter, it's very likely that you have lost count of the amount of times you have started a diet with really good intentions.

You're unlikely to be able to recite the amount of times you have even managed to lose a few pounds and then suddenly stopped exercising. Or perhaps you have been carefully watching what you eat and suddenly those pounds you lost are back with a whole lot more beside.

Be truthful to yourself, how many times have you lost the same weight over and over again?

How many different types of diets have you tried? There are the popular ones but there are so many fad diets it's very easy to lose count as to what is the new "diet of the month".

Maybe you are sitting there thinking about the time you did the cabbage soup diet or the grapefruit diet or one of the many other zany weight loss "miracle" diets.

You know these might be good for a short time but do you really want to live on grapefruit or cabbage soup? The answer is obviously no or you would still be on that diet!

The truth is that diets just don't work.

If diets worked then you would be thin. Period. After all, you have religiously followed all of these diets and they just haven't worked.

Diets don’t work because most of the time it is impossible for you to sustain them.

You go on holiday to enjoy yourself and what happens? You eat whatever is available and the pounds go on. Understandably you are discouraged with the idea of your diet and you quit.

Next time around on your new diet, you have a bad day and end up eating chips, donuts and chocolate while watching a movie.

All the time your self esteem drops lower and lower and your weight loss efforts go out of the window.

You need to learn to eat in a proper manner. After all, garbage in is garbage out.

If you want fast food and coke daily you are going to get fatter - it's a fact. You can't eat burgers and fries all the time and still hope to lose weight. Once in a while is OK but you should downsize the portions.

Eat smaller meals during the day. Know your limitations and, more importantly, when to stop.

It takes time and effort to know when to stop but it is possible to learn it. This is, after all, the way that you are going to finally lose that excess weight and feel good about yourself again.
