Gained weight at Beer College and you want to know how to get rid of belly fat

I think that I must have gone to the same college as you did because I came away with a big beer gut as a bonus on my qualifications. It's difficult to lose beer gut fat but not impossible. The trick is to take your time, cut out the alcohol or reduce it a lot, and take up something you enjoy that will provide regular exercise.

If you're a beer belly girl or a beer belly boy you need to read this article because if you follow the suggestions you should eventually lose the beer belly fat, look a whole lot better, feel great and have more than a fighting chance of keeping your weight at a healthy level permanently.

What is beer belly fat?

There can be as much as 300 to 400 calories or more in one pint of beer. If you routinely drink 3 or more pints in a day then you could be consuming your entire daily calorie requirement in liquid form from the beer. If you then eat normally on top of that then it's no wonder that you gain weight and most of it goes on as fat around your waist and out front to form the familiar beer belly.

There is a simple rule that governs how much weight you gain or lose and it's this: If you burn off more calories than you consume in food or drink then you will lose weight. If you consume more calories than you burn off with exercise then you will gain weight. All you have to do is balance your calorie intake with a good weight loss exercise program and you can be whatever weight you desire within reason. So why is it so difficult?

To reduce belly fat, exercise is required to burn it off

You need to exercise to lose belly fat but most people make the mistake of concentrating their efforts on strengthening the muscles around their middle and wonder why they see little or no improvement.

Targeted muscle building exercises like this are good for you to do but if you want to see the results you need to burn off the fat that has accumulated around your mid section with regular cardio exercises such as running or swimming. This

When you exercise to get rid of belly fat what you are trying to do is burn more calories than you consume and when this happens your body will start to burn fat to compensate for the lack of calories in your food.

It's not good to lose belly fat fast

It's not good to lose weight quickly at all, not just belly fat. There are many fast weight loss diets going around that will take weight off quickly but they aren't good for your body and it's unlikely that you will keep your weight down permanently after you stop the diet.

Losing weight fast is generally accomplished by reducing your calorie intake to near starvation levels, which will take the weight off you very quickly. That isn't the only thing that will happen however. Your body will lower your metabolism so that you burn calories slower because it isn't expecting to get many.

You will start to burn lean muscle as well as fat, which will make you weak and skinny, and it will be difficult to build the muscle back again. Your appetite will also increase because your body wants you to eat.

None of this is good for you and it will make if extremely difficult for you to avoid putting the weight straight back on when the diet is over. To me that is just a waste of time and effort.

A better way of burning belly fat

Do it slowly. Aim to reduce your weight by 1 to 2 pounds a week and do it by using good nutrition and a weight loss exercise program. Read more about this here: Lose Weight - Plan to Stay Lean and Healthy. If you take this approach you will be able to burn away your beer belly fat while building up your muscles. You will look good, feel good and stand a much better chance of keeping your weight and your beer gut down permanently.
