Today most men and women, athlete or non-athlete think that to get into good shape they have to run long distance.

When did long distance running become the answer for a healthy, lean, muscular body, most distance runners are thin and have no muscle tone at all

I know people that run miles and miles and are old looking and are always complaining that their knees, back and ankles hurt.

Then I get the question " What can I do so my knees, back and ankles stop hurting" Stop running long distance!

If you compete in long distance races and you like it, keep doing it, but for people that want to strip off body fat, become lean and get into great shape, try short sprints, short sprints are intense and will produce the results you want- FAST.

If you get a chance check out a track and field meet, look at the sprinters, they are muscular, fast and explosive, than look at the men or women that run 1600 meters or more they are always skinny and sickly looking.

By doing short intense sprints you will cut your workout in half, you will not be putting as much stress on your knees, back and ankles.

You will be increasing your metabolism at super fast rate and burn more fat more often longer through the day.

Try to sprint for 10 to 15 seconds- walk 10 to 15 seconds- sprint again try this for 10 to 15 minutes.

Another small effective workout, sprint 20 yards- skip 20 yards continue for 10 to 15 minutes.

John Grube is an expert on the subject of bodyweight training. He has over 25 years of training experience and is the author of The Wildman Training Program manual. For more info http://www.wildmantraining.com
