Successful weight loss, is a lot like relationships. What we're looking for in a relationship- and what we're prepared to put into it, influence how it will turn out. Quick-fix diets are the one night stand of the eating spectrum: in the same way as you realise that the night of passion with that person you fancied wasn't all you thought it would be, and your interest falls, the short term weight loss you may have achieved doesn't last, and you come to see that the revolutionary new diet has left you feeling exhausted, bad tempered, maybe with spots and bad breath, and above all, disappointed and feeling that Template of failure.
Compare this with a long term relationship. A good lasting partnership involves a bit of work and upkeep. It's not always glamorous. and there are inevitably problems along the way, but you know it feels right, and ultimately it works long term.
Over the years it will evolve, and it's the way in which you navigate the sometimes tricky road that determines the likelihood of long term success. Your relationship with your body is exactly the same. Circumstances change, due to social and environment factors, but the key is to be in tune with your brain so you can be responsive to your body's needs as they arise. So ditch that One-night Stand mentality now!
