Many people ask me when is the best time to attempt losing weight?
My response is when you?re ready!
For many people losing weight is a big step, a step that requires commitment, effort and drive. Keeping this in mind it may be best to choose a time that suits yourself; after all, you?re going to have to live with any changes or plans you make. Spend a good week preparing for positive changes. Try to visualize in your head what it will be like during the change, ask yourself how much will it affect me, my life, work, partner or children. Will you be able to cope with the extra time needed for preparing meals or workout time?
Learn to live in the moment of how life will be like, not so much as to put you off making positive changes, instead to realize the requirements rather than have them slap you in the face after starting an exercise program. Then learn to love these changes.
Program the mind that it will be both dietary changes and an increase in activity for at least a few months before you may see real results. Make plans on how you?re going to prepare the foods, shopping for food, cooking times, exercise time, etc. Plan for the dietary change, remember its not a diet which we relentlessly follow it?s a consistent dietary change needed.
Eating healthy, nutritious foods helps keep the metabolism high and provides more nutrients for health and greater energy levels so you don?t get that lethargic feeling when its time to become active. For some ideas look at our sample diets to see ways we can eat more food but consume fewer calories.
Plan any activity routine ahead of starting it, ask friends to join in, look into starting new sports / activities that you believe you?ll enjoy. Involve the family too. Starting new hobbies also helps focus the mind on something else, rather than the thought of food. Start to look at ways in your life where you can become active almost every day. At work maybe you could set a watch alarm every hour to remind you to get up and walk around, even if its for 5 minutes. There are thousands of ideas to match every type of lifestyle so plan before taking action, after all you'll want the next weight loss program to be the last ever!
Whatever changes you decide to make seek approval from your doctor beforehand, then introduce any changes slowly!!
