Cellulite is the bane of women world wide. Many find it highly unsightly and find it quite embarrassing. There is hope though, cellulite it self is controllable but not necessarily preventable. However With a strong determination and a willingness to implement dietary adjustments and lifestyle changes, one can make major inroads in controlling the effects of cellulite.

Most of us know what cellulite looks like. It's pretty hard to miss because it's so easily recognizable due to it's distinct characteristics. It resembles the texture of the skin on the outside of an orange or in worse cases it can take on a cottage cheese like appearance. It will usually have a unique pattern and will primarily appear on one of the following body parts- the buttocks, the hips or the abdominal area.

Cellulite is much more common in females than males. The intensity of its affects can vary from the mild to the extreme and, contrary to popular belief it is not considered a medical condition, just a cosmetic issue. What you are seeing is just the visible effect of excess fat deposits being stored within the epidermis layer just below the skin surface.

What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite is normally not an issue until the years following puberty. It is around this time frame during a young girls development that her hormone levels begin to surge. As such these hormones start sending messages to different parts of the body giving the signal that it's time to begin the process of change. One of these changes is the creation of a layer of fat within the innermost portion of the skin known as the subcutaneous layer.

As this layer of fat is manufactured , a patterned formation inside this layer is produced. The main function of this layer is to contain the bodies stored fat reserves. It is this structure, or framework used for the storage of fat that is shaped similar to the letter 'X' which creates the classic dimpling effect. This is because too much fat is being stored in the area and the deposits start to bulge. In a man's body the pattern created is quite different. The deposits tend to be more column shaped so even when there is excess fat storage it is not usually visible in the same manner as seen with women.

Under normal levels of fat storage the innermost layer of the subcutaneous region will not cause any external dimpling due to the fact that there is enough room for all the deposits of fat. So in reality, most woman will have the tendency to develop some level of cellulite when their body fat starts to accumulate.

How Do You Get Rid Of Cellulite?

Using clothing to cover and hide the appearance of cellulite is a very common practice, however most people cannot do this all the time. Some people spend hundreds of dollars trying all types of cellulite treatment products with no result. Natural remedies will get you much farther in treating the affects of cellulite. Where not talking about some herbal supplement or smelly balm, just good old fashioned diet and exercise. The only way to get rid of cellulite and make it less visible is by causing shrinkage in the size of the fat cells being stored within the subcutaneous layer so they no longer bulge from the skin.

Contrary to what you see on television or in magazine advertisements, the marketers of these hundreds of cellulite lotions, wraps, treatment creams, pills and other products will tell you they have your solution. But in reality a sensible diet with lots of vegetables, whole grains, fruits, quality proteins and low in saturated fat and sodium is all you need for your road to recovery. Include some moderate regular exercise routines that focus on the specific areas where cellulite appears. Walking or biking are great simple exercises that target many of the cellulite trouble spots. Within a few months (sometimes longer, depending on the level of the cellulite) this embarrassing condition can be greatly diminished and under control.

It is also worth noting that massaging an affected area can help to reduce the cellulite because the consistent motions help break down the stored deposits of fat.
