Understand the Changes You Will Experience After WLS

If you are a severely overweight person and considering Weight Loss Surgery (WLS), understand that it will take hard work and an adjustment to your daily routine in order to successfully lose weight. You will have to adapt to a completely new lifestyle and change the way you eat, what you eat and how you eat every day.

During WLS your stomach will be reconstructed into a much smaller pouch, so you will not be able to consume large quantities of food anymore without getting sick. If you?ve been a sugar lover, you most likely will have to give up this habit because your stomach won?t be able to tolerate it anymore. You will need to drink a lot of water every day and eat more protein. Instead of the three squares you?re probably used to, you will now have to eat smaller, more frequent meals in order to achieve your weight loss goal. And, to keep losing weight you must make exercise a part of your daily routine.

You will need to make changes to your wardrobe. As you continue to lose weight, clothes that fit you now will be too large in a few weeks, so you have to increase your clothing budget during this time. Don?t forget underwear and shoes, as you?ll outgrow these also. To save money, consider buying at thrift stores or only shopping the sales racks until you?ve reached your goal weight- then you can treat yourself to the new clothes you?ve been waiting for.

The most important adjustment you?ll make during this transition is how you see your reflection in the mirror. If you?ve been overweight for a long time, it will be hard to wrap your brain around the new you. You may feel uncomfortable accepting compliments on your new figure from your family and friends. You will need to stop thinking of yourself as obese, but rather as a slim, healthy person. And, the most important benefit you?ll see from all you?ve been through is that you start to enjoy life more than you ever did before.

Congratulations to all of you who have successfully achieved your weight loss goal! It takes courage to make this life altering decision, and you should be very proud of yourself for pursuing your dream.
