I have been eating junk so long I really don?t remember what it is like to eat a healthy diet. For a long time I have been twenty-five or thirty pounds overweight with little desire to change. As I have gotten older my ideal of being healthy into my 70?s does not seem as real as it once did.
I did not even want to visit my doctor. I knew my doctor would tell me to shed a few pounds. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I set out on a search of the Internet for answers to help me lose weight sensibly by eating a healthy diet. After much reading and searching I have decide my new healthy way of eating will include
- A diet that Is well balanced with lots of foods from each food group
- Most of the food I will eat must be low in saturated fat and trans fat
- It has to have a sensible amount of calories
Most people will agree that the government charts showing the food groups make a lot of sense. I remember seeing them all the way back to grade school. I never thought I would take them seriously. Eating different foods from each group should make you healthier. I will also include lots of fruits and vegetables into my new eating plan.
I keep reading all over the Internet about how high fat seems to go along with heart disease and a multitude of other health problems. My new healthy eating plan will include as many low fat foods as I can squeeze in.
Most important of all is calorie intake. It will do me little good to eat all this great stuff and still be stuffing in 3000 calories a day. Although it will be hard I am going to maintain a sensible amount of calories each day.
I have stared my plan in action by first visiting my doctor and chatting with him about all of this and listening to his advice about what I should and should not do. You should always start any health related activity with a visit to your doctor.
After he gave me the go ahead I was off to the races. I will try to add a something new to my healthy eating plan each day because I believe I may fail if I try to change all of my bad habits at one time. I like to set my weight loss goals in 10-pound increments. That way I can measure real success in a shorter period of time and will not get discouraged as easily.
Why have a healthy diet? The answer is simple, so you can live a more active, healthier lifestyle.
