What is an E.P.T. Pregnancy Test?
Most people are aware that the DIY or home pregnancy test cannot generally be 100% accurate. However, there is a product called the E.P.T. pregnancy test which is claimed to be 99% accurate in detecting the pregnancy hormone HCG in the urine, although for various reasons, it will not be successful on some women. It is very important to ensure that the manufacturer?s instructions are closely followed to improve the chance of success.
How to Use the E.P.T. Pregnancy Test
Once the test stick has been carefully removed from its packaging, the absorbent tip is exposed by removing the protective cap. With the test stick held by the incorporated grip, the absorbent tip should be placed within the urine flow for five seconds.
Once the test stick has absorbed the fluid, it should be left for three minutes on a level surface with the display window facing upwards. During this time, and to show that the test is in progress, you are likely to see a light pink color flowing across the display window. The test stick must not be moved during this period. It is important that you read and analyse the test results within 20 minutes of completing the test
Understanding the Test Results
There are normally two test windows, one square and the other round. A pink line in the square window shows that the test has been completed properly. If there is also a pink line in the round window, the test has proved positive. If there is no line in the round window, the test was negative. These pink lines may not match the color provided on the instructions but this is not a matter for concern.
Post Test Action
Obviously, if the test has proven positive, then you should make an appointment with your doctor to confirm the results and start to plan your pre-natal care. Should the outcome of the test reveal that you are not pregnant, please bear in mind the accuracy of these tests are not 100% and if the instructions have not been followed to the letter, this could have affected the EPT pregnancy test.
If you still experience some of the early signs of pregnancy and your period does not commence within the following week, you should undertake a further test. If that EPT pregnancy test still shows a negative result, you are still showing signs of pregnancy and your period is still yet to start, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.
