The weight exercises make tighter and shorten muscles whereas the pilates elongate them. The outcome is a lean, fat-burning body that is additionally flexible and relaxed.

The only criticism I have regarding the program is the lack of rational progression. A lot of DVD's are intended for beginners who are not in the greatest of shape. Of course, this is the perfect place to begin in any routine. On the other hand, the advanced pilates DVD's appear to leap to an almost professional level.

I am looking for a pilates workout that challenges me without hurting me. Some of the advanced programs are virtually unachievable to follow if you are an run of the mill human being. It is hard to move forward in this system.

Adding ankle or wrist weights is a feasible substitute that will help provide some challenge to the workout. The trouble is that the additional weights can easily throw you off balance. The design behind pilates is a natural flow of movement. Occasionally adding weight restricts your range of movement and you are doing barely more than working out with weights.

All and all, the pilates methodology to fitness is fantastic. It is a safe, useful exercise program that suits practically everybody. Finding one that provides realistic challenges can be a challenge all by itself.
